Hope | أمل

She said: “Hope is life where there is none. It is the first rain drop that greets the desert sand. It is the impossible battle fought till their fingers run cold. It is the birth at the end of struggle.”

What I Really Think of “Resolutions”.

Here I sit beside my window, hearing the cars as they pass by. Life moving at it’s usual pace, the sky taken over by darkness.

Fireworks? Or gunshots? Can’t tell.

Okay, definitely fireworks. -.-

Cold breezes. The usual.

You get the setting?

So, today happens to be December 31st (or 1st of January, depending on where you are and when this gets posted)

Resolutions, I’ve been hearing this word for the past couple of weeks. And I find it amusing when people say “New Year Resolutions” or the “Today is the last page of 2014” shenanigans.

Let me be real with you… Because someone has to.

Shall I?

  1. You do not need a new year to undertake a resolution… You only need yourself.
  2. If you didn’t lose weight last year there might be slim chance that a systematic automated change in the Gregorian calendar to January 1st will miraculously do wonders.
  3. Be real with yourself. You know as well as I do that these are just mere resolutions. We never plan the execution bit too well.
  4. As my wise parents always say “You are only deceiving yourself” *insert suitable sound effect* –mitchew
  5. And also “I am sorry for you ooo”  *yes, the ooo’s are quite essential to the quote.*

On a serious note though. It’s just a calendar (among others), defined by seconds, minutes, hours days and months. Change begins when you decide to. Calendars are reminders for how many days we pass without doing that thing that we should be doing…

For me January 1st is just another. Another struggle, another ray of hope on planet earth. Another chance. Another day to be thankful for.

The cars pass by, the birds rest and Life goes on.

They sharpened their swords.

She refilled her ink.

They claimed victorious.

She emerged victorious.

Victory was hers from the beginning.

Little did they know.

The Slushy in Solitude.

In solitude
its insides
melt like snow.

soft but too cold to touch.
Melts in your hands,
like red strawberry slush.

To take a leap..

Bold enough to be the curve
in a world full of sharp edges.
Confident enough to sway its own unique hue.

Influence with elegance.

Not too warm not to cold
just about right
to freeze your palms
but not too warm to slide right through.

Red slush
the perfect hue
in its confinement.

September, September, September. I’d always dreaded the beginning of this month, I was never ready for school. Yes, my bed sang serenades to me, September always splitting us apart…

It’s that time of the year again. Believe it or not 9 months just flashed by our eyes and before you know it January’s gonna be knocking at your door.

For all my lovelies who will/have start/started their first semester in college and be far far away from the comfort your  homes, all the bestest best for your journey ahead! 🙂

On the related topic..

I came across this article  28 College Hacks You Won’t Learn in Class”

No.4-on the list has to be the most useful one, at least for me.

Set your phone lock screen to your schedule during your first week of class.

Craving some noodles?

No.20-  Dont have a pot? no problem… lol This has to be the weirdest, dangerous and at the same time the most creative. I’d never try it. But I guess desperate times do call for desperate measures…

Click here to read the entire list. Some of them are really useful and some are just weird…hahaha

Do you have any college hacks to share?

Writing Challenge Day 20: Tell us the story of your most-prized possession.

It took me a while to think about what my ‘prized’ possession actually is. But I came up with this conclusion: everything!

Yes, I think maybe everything I have could be my prized possession, everything has it’s unique value, it could be a flimsy cardboard box but it’s the value you attach to it… it might be a cardboard box to me but to you it might be the first little den your cat was brought in.

But anyway for the sake of today’s topic I’ll randomly choose a few ‘prized’ possessions of mine.

Memories: No, I’m not talking photo albums and a 101 selfies with your friends all in the name of “memories” no, no no I’m talking about real memories which stick in your head the type of memories that are triggered with smell and taste. Like sometimes when I taste suya it reminds me of the first time I ate the food, I remember the street sellers grilling the meat and the fumes and aroma filling the entire road with the smell of suya. Or sometimes when I write down the no. 8, I remember when I was still in kindergarten and finally figured out how to actually write the number, prior to that, my 8 used to be like an egg over an egg…which is also right, in a way.

Memories make themselves and chances are if you’re taking photos of yourself through a whole event, you’re going to be left with pictures not memories.

Another thing would be something more on the materialistic side, it would be the 1 gram of gold I won in kindergarten. Now, I don’t know how I won it because it was one of those random winner kinda things and I’m not really that kinda random winner person. I remember it was part of the school fete thing; they stopped it later I don’t know why. But, what surprised me is that I brought it home safe, it didn’t end up getting lost or something hahaha. I’m proud of my 5 year old self.  I remember this happened during my first year at school I was the new girl in a big class full of kids. Some were nice and then there were the downright mean little people. I still remember them!  And some of them never changed to this very day.

There! More memories…

The Box: yes! I have this small box where I keep little things like small gifts from my friends, doodle drawings from 10th grade my old library card, silly notes from my friends… ten years later opening this box will be like time travel haha. I’ll be adding stuff as the years pass by!

And with that I complete this month’s writing challenge! This has definitely prevented my blog from harboring dust bunnies , bringing me out of my comfort topic zone with all them random topic they threw at us this past month, leaving  me like “Do I really have to write that? Ehh…where do I start?” But it was fun twisting the prompts around, reading different blogger approaches and creating my own. Feel free to read alllllll of the 20 posts! Have fun… tata, aurevior, masalam.
